Along the Mississippi River, the Quad Cities -- Rock Island and Moline in Illinois, and Davenport and Bettendorf in Iowa -- have been on a growth spurt ever since arrival of the rail tracks in 1854, with major railroads including the famed Rock island Lines. Davenport attractions include the Figge Art Museum, Iowa's oldest regional art repository now in new facilities downtown. Minor league baseball unfolds along the river in John O'Donnell Stadium, fresh from a $13.8 renovation. The Ben Williamson Park in Rock Island is home to free water ski shows put on by the stunt performing Backwater Gamblers Water Skiers. Moline's John Deere Commons Pavilion features the farm equipment producer once living in the area along with implements bearing his name. Davenport and Moline accommodations include assorted inns and an abundance of name-brand motels and hotels.
